Successful Conference on Migration and Urban Cultures

Last week CERGU, together with CERGU postdoc Christina Reimann, organized a successful conference on port cities and urban cultures. Reimann summarizes the conference, below:

"Last week, the conference on "Port Cities and Migration in the Modern Era" assembled researcher, mostly historians, from many different countries and of different academic backgrounds. The variety of approaches and the participants' expertise allowed for a very well informed and engaged discussion about port cities' urban cultures - as shaped by migratory movements - and as catalysts of globalisation processes. The two parts of the conference were held together by an evening roundtable addressing both migration-related characteristics of port cities: their cultural hybridity and their role as nodes of mobility especially in the imperial world."
