RJ's International Postdoctoral Program

Project leader: Claes Alvstam
Funding: The Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation
Period: 2013-2017

In a targeted effort, The Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation has decided to support the further development of the international and interdisciplinary research environment at the Center for European Research at the University of Gothenburg (CERGU). From 2013 to 2017 CERGU will receive approximately 2 million SEK per year to fund six international postdoctoral researchers and a coordinator. The international postdoctoral program supplements the graduate students and postdocs that CERGU finances through the financial support from The Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and The School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg.

The international postdocs are seen as an important addition to the European programs at the University of Gothenburg, which consist of CERGU, the Centre for European Studies (CES), which is responsible for educational programs in European Studies, as well as the student organization, Brännpunkt Europa. Because postdocs are employed by their individual departments, they should simultaneously contribute to, and benefit from, the expertise that exists within their own particular disciplines. This, in turn, reflects the network structure that characterizes the way CERGU is organized, with many researchers spread over a variety of different disciplines. Furthermore, postdocs should also be a part of teaching courses on European-related topics as part of CES as well as at their home departments. Postdocs are encouraged to attend and participate in different events, such as the lunch seminars organized by Brännpunkt Europa.

Recruitment for postdoctoral positions in this program took place in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Recruiting for the coordinator position took place in 2013.
