CERGU's Seminars and Conferences

CERGU Organises 2-4 Annual International Conferences or Workshops

During their two-year employment, every CERGU-funded postdoctoral researcher is expected to organise at least one conference within their discipline. In addition to these conferences, many researchers utilise CERGU to arrange multidisciplinary conferences and workshops. Sometimes external organizations, such as foundations, also seek CERGU’s assistance for help with putting together conferences and seminars.

CERGU Organises Public Seminars on Current European Issues

Researchers in CERGU's network are encouraged to invite guest scholars to give seminars on current European issues and we often organise seminars in collaboration with other institutions and networks. CERGU works closely with the Centre for European Studies (CES) to utilise guest speakers and CERGU is also a co-sponsor and co-organiser for Brännpunkt Europa’s events.

Annual CERGU Events

Since 1992, each spring CERGU holds Europaforskardagen (European Research Day) which focuses on current research being done at the University of Gothenburg, often featuring invited scholars who are relevant to the seminar's annual theme. CERGU also participates annually in Vetenskapsfestivalen (The Science Festival), most recently in collaboration with the student organization, Brännpunkt Europa. Every autumn a seminar is held which coincides with the European Studies’ graduation ceremony where CERGU presents the Rutger Lindahl Award for best master’s thesis within European Studies. CERGU takes part in Global Week, as well.

CERGU Organises Working Seminars

Working seminars are held every month and allow CERGU-funded researchers and scholars in our network to receive multidisciplinary feedback on their research, articles and project ideas. The purpose of these seminars is not to report final results, but rather to share ideas and to hear other perspectives from scholars in different disciplines. Even senior researchers often seize upon this unique opportunity to present their ongoing research and writing.
In addition to the above activities, CERGU organises many social activities, such as Tuesday morning breakfasts, the annual kickoff, year-end celebrations, etc.
