Brand New Fact Sheets Prior to the European Parliament Elections!
On May 26, 2019 the European Parliament elections will be held. The Swedish National Election Studies Program and the Centre for European Research (CERGU) at the University of Gothenburg have jointly created a series of fact sheets in order to contribute to the research-based knowledge and information for the general public, leading up to the elections. This particular series will be entitled “Fact Sheets About the European Parliament Elections” and will be launched with two new fact sheets each week until the European Parliament elections take place at the end of May. We will begin with more general information about voter turnout and election participation in Sweden and the EU, and will then continue with special topics like “Brexit” and attitudes toward the EU, as well as facts on Swedish parties and groups within the European Parliament. The purpose of this series of fact sheets is to offer voters a basic understanding about what occurs during the European Parliament elections, differences in voting behavior, and knowledge of citizens. The hope is that the Swedish National Election Studies Program and CERGU can play a role in a fact-based societal debate and election campaign. In addition to facts based on research done by the Swedish National Election Studies Program on voting behavior in European Parliament elections, we will also be utilizing information based on official election statistics and polls conducted by the SOM-Institute and the Eurobarometer, as well as information from the European Parliament, itself.
