MAES students travel to Florence for the 30th anniversary of the Erasmus-programme

News: Mar 06, 2017

2017 comes with a special symbolic value for modern European integration, since this year represents the 60th anniversary of the Rome Treaties. 2017 also comes with the 30th anniversary of the Erasmus Programme.

The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, and Department of Political Science, University of Florence organises a special event for the Erasmus anniversary by inviting two students, one female and one male, from each of the 28 EU member countries, for a conference on possible strategies to relaunch the European integration process. Each pair of students will be asked to present a position paper discussing the current deep crisis of the EU institutional project, and suggesting the avenues to be pursued at the national and supranational levels in order to relaunch the integration process.

We are happy to announce that Rebecca Timm and Steffen Wamsler will represent CES at the upcoming conference. Rebecca has carried out three Erasmus exchange experiences (studied in Florence, two internship semesters in Brussels). Steffen has carried out two Erasmus exchange experiences (studied in Maastricht, one internship in Brussels). After an open call to our students in the MAES – Master of European Studies Program, Steffen and Rebecca have been selected, since they live up to the requirements specified in the call thereby conveying: productive ideas on how to contribute to the conference theme, cogent arguments for why they would be suited for conference participation; and strong arguments for being fit representatives of CES at the conference.

During the conference the students will discuss their ideas with one another and with MEPs and other representatives of the EU institutions. The University of Florence will host the student for four days in Florence in the second or the fourth week of May, and will cover travel and accommodation expenses.
